Jan Hus preached in the Bethlehem Chapel from 1402 to 1413. In the 18th century, the chapel was in a desolate state, it was demolished and a residential house was built in its place. That house was also demolished, in 1949, and replaced by a replica of the original Bethlehem Chapel.Jan Hus was burned at Constance in 1415 because he refused to revoke his conviction. On the 600th anniversary of his death, strange metal plates were installed on the chapel wall. Strange only until the sun shines on them at the right time of year and day. Its rays then draw an inscription on the chapel wall: “For the truth.”
